An overnight Horror Movie Marathon
Ghouls Magazine is an online space looking at horror through the female perspective from a team of writers who identify as women or non-binary persons. We are joining forces with Birmingham independent cinema Mockingbird Cinema to host our first ever horror all-nighter. We will be raising funds for Cruse, the UK’s leading bereavement support charity – a cause that is very close to our hearts.
So put on your favourite pyjamas, grab your cuddliest teddy-bear and settle in with us for a night of drinks, popcorn, guts and gore!
Kicking off the night we’re exploring pleasure and pain with Clive Barker’s HELLRAISER (1987), before we crawl through the screen into Japan for supernatural horror with Hideo Nakata’s RING (1998).
You’ll then have time to shake off your nerves, give your body a break, and reboot your brain for our BIG HORROR QUIZ!
We know the competition will leave you all hot and bothered, so we will cool things down as we head to Outpost 31 in the Antarctic for John Carpenter’s THE THING (1982).
No Ghouls event would be complete without some female-fronted found-footage horror, and very few are more terrifying and iconic than our penultimate film- Jaume Balaguero’s REC (2007).
Finally, we will do our best to keep you awake into the final hours of our very own slumber party massacre with some teen angst bullshit in Michael Lehmann’s legendary HEATHERS (1988).
